Autograph Book Valuation?

Hi, Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question but I was't sure where to go. Here goes.... My Mother collected autographs back in the 40's/50's. She has two books each containing many signatures from actors, actresses, musical artists etc. I know they include Richard Burton, Charles Hawtrey and others. Does anyone know if they may be of any monetary value and if so where I might go to have them valued? Thank you

Would suggest you try Google Search or Bing and search for celebrity signature values or a variation of that. Good luck. :-)

Thank you very much. Would you suggest they would be worth more left as a whole item in the book or split? not that I would start tearing the pages out of course. Just a thought.

Find a local auction house and take the book there for valuation.

If you mean a book with blank pages that contains just autographs - depending on who's in it, it could go easily into a 3 figure sum.

Thanks Marianne, It has so many in there, some I am unable to identify. I should ask Mum but then I would have to label the pages which isn't a good idea. She used to stand at the stage door at the theatres in Nottingham when she was a young lass waiting for the greats to emerge. I will nip up in the loft tomorrow and search it out and see just how many I can identify. I do know there is Kenneth Williams, Richard Burton, probably Elizabeth Taylor as well.

Valuation would also depend on authentication. Does your mum have any photos of herself with any of the celebrities signing the book?

No she probably didn't even have a camara back then. Mom & her friends would go to the back of the theatre & collect autographs even if they didn't have the funds to go to the shows, it was common practice back then.

I am determined to climb into the loft as soon as I finish the ironing to see if I can find these books, I am almost certain there are two of them, I will then see what I can make out myself. Mom is coming round tomorrow so will get her to identify the rest & make a note of them as Kim suggested. I will get back to you.Thanks for all input.
