The first stage of the Kharkiv offensive operation began on September 6 and lasted until September 14, 2022. During it, the Defense Forces of Ukraine began rapid large-scale offensive actions in the direction of the cities of Balaklia, Izyum, and Kupyansk. Already on September 7, defenders of Ukraine de-occupied Balaklia, and a few days later, on September 10, they liberated Izyum and Kupyansk. On September 12, units of the airborne assault troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces established control over the village of Bogorodichne and the town of Sviatohorsk in the Donetsk region. As of September 13, fighters of the Defense Forces of Ukraine liberated the entire temporarily occupied territory of the Kharkiv region up to the Oskil River.
