Original 1894 7 1/4 inch x 5 1/4 inch engraving titled SLOTH-BEARS IN A FOREST GLADE.
Shaggy, dusty, and unkempt, the reclusive sloth bear makes its home in the forests of South Asia. Emitting noisy grunts and snorts, it wanders alone, usually at night, in search of insects and fresh fruit.
Engraved by Gustav Ludwig Heinrich Mützel (1839 - 1893). A German artist, famous for his mammal and bird paintings, including the illustrations for the second edition of Alfred Edmund Brehm's ‘Thierleben’ and Richard Lydekker's ‘The Royal Natural History’.

The engraving is in very good condition with minor foxing in the white border. Reverse side is blank.
