Ruthin (/ˈrɪθɪn/ (About this soundlisten) RITH-in; Welsh: Rhuthun) is a market town and community in Denbighshire, Wales, in the south of the Vale of Clwyd. It is the county town of Denbighshire. The town, castle and St Peter's Square lie on a hill. Ruthin is skirted by villages such as Pwllglas and Rhewl. The name comes from the Welsh rhudd (red) and din (fort), after the colour of the sandstone bedrock of which the castle was built in 1277–1284.[3] The original name was Castell Coch yng Ngwern-fôr (Red Castle in the Sea Swamps). The Old Mill, Ruthin, is nearby. Maen Huail, a registered ancient monument attributed to the brother of Gildas and King Arthur, stands in St Peter's Square.

Mae Rhuthun ("Cymorth – Sain" ynganiad ) yn dref fach, oedd â phoblogaeth o 5,218 yn 2001 (47% gwryw, 53% benyw, oed cyfartaledd 43.0). Hi yw tref sirol Sir Ddinbych, ac fe'i lleolir ar lan Afon Clwyd yn ne Dyffryn Clwyd. Cyfeirnod OS: SJ 12417 58306. Mae'r A494 a'r A525 yn rhedeg drwyddi.

Mae Rhuthun wedi ei hefeillio â thref Brieg, Llydaw. Ceir dwy ysgol uwchradd: Ysgol Brynhyfryd a Ysgol Rhuthun (neu Ruthin School) sy'n ysgol breifat. Yr enw lleol ar yr ysgol breifat ydy "Ysgol y Capie Cochion".

Cynrychiolir yr ardal hon yn Senedd Cymru gan Darren Millar (Ceidwadwyr) a'r Aelod Seneddol yw David Jones (Ceidwadwr).[1][2]

Mae gan y dref hen gastell, a adeiladwyd tuag 1280, ond cafodd ei ddymchwel ar ôl y Rhyfel Cartref, ac fe'i ail-adeiladwyd fel gwesty mawr yn y 19g. Arferai fod yn brif dref Dogfeiling yn yr Oesoedd Canol Cynnar, a fu yn ddiweddarach yn un o ddau gwmwd a ffurfiai cantref Dyffryn Clwyd. Mae stryd yn y dref yn dal i gael ei galw'n "Dog Lane" (neu "Stryd Dogfael") ar ei ôl. Mae Maen Huail yn garreg o flaen Banc Barclays ac sy'n coffau torri pen brawd Gildas, yn ôl y chwedl.
