Russian Seals. N. Soboleva/Russkie pechati. N. Soboleva Monograph examines monuments of Russian Sfragistics, mainly of North-Eastern Rus in the fourteenth-fifteenth centuries. Their history is considered in the context of the functioning of seals in the Russian state since the tenth century and against the background of the evolution of the legal status of the press in medieval Europe as a whole. Special attention is paid to the artistic and figurative side of wax seals and prints, which replaced the metal bull of the Byzantine sample, and to the formation of specific symbols, reflecting the ideology of the centralized Russian state.
