• Comments: This leaflet and timetable is about the Welsh Highland railway that runs from the castle town of Caernarfon to Porthmadog, via Bontnewydd, Dinas, Tryfan Junction, Waunfawr, Plas y Nant, Snowdon Ranger, Rhyd Ddu, Meillionen, Beddgelert, Nantmor, and Pont Croesor. It is probably the most scenic steam train journey in the UK and climbs up from sea level to 650 feet and back down to sea level again. You also get to see Mount Snowdon in the distance on this 25 mile journey. Sections of the line had been in existence since 1863, but the railway as a whole was not instigated till 1923, and it ran on and off until 1937 with passenger and slate trains. In about 1980 work began on restoring the full line and this was completed by 2011.
