Rail (Enthusiast) June 1994. Issue No.229

Main features:

- Cover Story:  Going to Scotland:  ScotRail is again operating loco-hauled trains on the Inverness-Kyle and Inverness-Edinburgh routes again this year. The full details of these services is given on page 7. On May 30, Class 37/0 No.37051 is pictured with one of the Highland Line services.

- News:  Pete Waterman's Class 47/7s for charter operation are identified by painted number - RAIL has the list, along with planned names; signalmen's strike paralyses railway system - but some trains still run; stations opened on Ribble Valley and Ivanhoe lines; West London service resumes; Class 92 heads for France; chaos returns to the Birmingham Cross-City lines as EMU shortage hits the West Midlands and a locomotive-hauled train returns to the Euston-Northampton route.

- Freight Facts:  The movement of petroleum by trains is big business for Trainload Freight, with much business originating in the north east. Paul Shannon has the story with full details of train times.

- Steeling the Show at Margam:  Michael Rhodes visits British Steel's Margam site, where a fleet of 13 locomotives ply 31 miles of track.

- Scrapheap for Class 140 DMU?  Evan Green-Hughes looks at the life and times of the prototype Class 140 railbus which now looks set to make its final journey to a scrapyard.

- Railway Jigsaw:  In his latest pictorial travels, Gavin Morrison takes us on a journey along the partly closed Midland Main Line route between Leeds and Swinton, with 'Peaks' galore!
