Original Polish 22 3/4 inch x 32 3/4 inch Poster for the 1966 Jerzy Kawalerowicz Egyptian Epic PHAROAH (FARAON), based on the novel “Pharoah” by Boleslaw Prus and starring Jerzy Zelnik, Barbara Brylska, Krystyna Mikolajewska, Wieslawa Mazurkiewicz and Ewa Krzyzewska.
A story of the fictional Egyptian ruler Ramses XIII. A pictorial monumentalism, a stylized theoretical interpretation, and a rich epic plot were the foundation of a work that was meant to illustrate the inner conflict of absolute power, and thus be an exotic replication of the current situation in Poland.
Poster art by Leszek Holdanowicz (1937 - 2020). Holdanowicz was a full professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He worked in the fields of graphic design and visual information, creating signs, album covers, book graphics. He was one of the representatives of the so-called Polish School of Posters.
The poster is in very good folded condition.
