Rafael received his higher education at the Moscow Art Institute named after Surikov, then studied for four years at the Faculty of Art Studies in Leningrad. He was known primarily as an outstanding connoisseur of Uzbek art. Rafael Taktash became a doctor of art history, professor, academician of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. In honor of his 80th birthday in 2006, the Uzbek government highly appreciated his work, awarding him the Order of El-yurt Khurmati. As a result of decades of scientific research, Rafael Taktash produced more than 300 publications, including a monograph by Usto Kodyr-jon Haidarov, Zholdasbek Kuttymuratov, Alexander Volkov, N. V.
