Original 1832 3 3/4 inch x 3 1/2 inch Etching and Stipple titled THE MAID OF SARAGOSA
The Maid of Saragoza; bust portrait of a young woman looking down to right, with cross necklace; illustration to 'Finden's illustrations of the life and works of Lord Byron' by Brockedon (London: Murray, 1833, Vol I).
Etched by Edward Finden (1791 - 1857). London line and stipple engraver. Brother of William, and worked together as engravers and publishers.
From the portrait by Frank Stone (1800–1859). An English painter who despite having no formal training in painting, attracted the attention of Public as well as other established London artists.
Published in 1832, by J. Murray
Inscription: “Ye who shall marvel when you hear her tale / Oh! had you known her in her softer hour!”
Plate size 8 5/8 inch x 6 inch
The etching is in very good condition with light foxing and slight age-related toning.
