LAXDALE HALL 1952 Raymond Huntley, Ronald Squire OSBERT LANCASTER QUAD POSTER

Original British 30 inch x 40 inch Quad Poster for the 1952 John Eldridge Comedy LAXDALE HALL, based on the novel by Eric Linklater and starring Raymond Huntley, Ronald Squire, Sebastian Shaw, Fulton Mackay, Kathleen Ryan, Kynaston Reeves, Jean Colin, Jameson Clark, Prunella Scales and Andrew Keir.

A parliamentary delegation is sent to a remote community in the Scottish Highlands where the residents are protesting at their poor links with the outside world. After a few days amongst them, the visitors come to appreciate the locals' lifestyle.

Poster art by Osbert Lancaster (1908 - 1986). Born in London on the 4th August 1908 Lancaster was educated at Charterhouse and Oxford, taking an honours degree in English Lit. He then went to the Slade and then worked for the Architectural Review, producing a number of posters for London Transport and various book jackets and illustrations. In 1939 he began producing his famous cartoon for the Daily Express.
