Kovalensky (Boris Nikolaevich Kompaneysky) (1885-1965) - born on November 18, 1885 in St. Petersburg, in the family of the composer of church music, N. I. Kompaneysky. Graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of St. Petersburg University (1908) and the History and Philology Faculty of Moscow University (1924). Specialized in the psychophysiology of visual perceptions (1926-1930). He worked as a researcher at the Psychological Laboratory of the Academy of Art Sciences (Moscow) (1930-1941). Professor at the Leningrad Herzen Higher Pedagogical Institute (1938-1941) and the All-Russian Academy of Arts. Professor of color perception theory in painting and architecture.
