K rekonstruktsii vostochnoslavyanskogo yazychestva The author, a well-known Russian archaeologist and philologist, has discovered in Chechen-Ingush folklore mythical legends about Perun, introduced to the Caucasus a thousand years ago by the migration of Slavs in the twists and turns of the Arab conquest campaigns. He compares this data with Russian fairy tales (in particular about Tsar Saltan), beliefs about witches and mermaids, and chronicles. Perun is presented in this reconstruction as the main god of Slavs from the ranks of dying and resurrecting deities, similar to Apollo and associated with the sexual cult of fertility.
