John Edward Green spent over 60 years working in aeronautics and serving the wider aeronautics community. He made a fundamental contribution to wing design and he was responsible for the development of aerodynamics capability at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, when it was at its technical peak, and at an exciting and critically important time for UK aviation. He gave many years service to the Society and, latterly, he was a champion for the better understanding of global aviations interaction with the environment. His contributions were recognised with Fellowships from the Society (1978), the Royal Academy of Engineering (1994), the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (1999) and Honorary Fellowship of the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (2008).
