Throughout the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries, the monastery burned several times, was looted by the French in 1812, and in 1929. Thanks to the heroic work of museum workers N. N. Pomerantsev, D. N. Sukhov, V.N. Ivanov, and others, it was possible to carry out measurements of demolished buildings and transfer to the museum many works of ancient Russian painting doomed to destruction.
