Original 1956 Polish 23 1/4 inch x 33 1/2 inch Poster for the 1955 Herbert Ballmann East German Fantasy THE DEVIL FROM MUHLENBERG (DER TEUFEL VOM MUHLENBERG) starring Eva Kotthaus, Hans-Peter Minetti, Willy A. Kleinau, Werner Peters, Gerhard Frei and Keinz Kammer.

According to a legend from the Harz region, sometime in the Middle Ages the brutal, greedy owner of the windmill farm set fire to a forest mill together with the castle bailiff and the village schoolmaster. Disguised as devils, they had set to work on a stormy night and stolen even the last flour from the forest mill. From then on, the farmers are forced to have the grain ground by the evil millman, especially since he spreads the rumor that the forest mill is bewitched. Anne, who works on his farm, discovers the stolen sacks and thus gets on the trail of the crime..

Poster art by Roman Cieslewicz. Born in 1930, Roman Cieslewicz studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in his home town of Lvov from 1943 to 1945 and the Academy of Fine Arts in Crakow from 1949 to 1954. Originally influenced by Henryk Tomaszewski, his work revealed Expressionist tendencies prior to his emigration to France. He has since been recognised as one of the world’s foremost commercial artists.
