This rare VHS tape features the legendary entertainer Bob Hope and his Christmas show for the troops. Bob Hope's 19th Christmas abroad includes highlights from his fifteen-day tour entertaining our troops in Europe and Southeast Asia. The 24,000 mile tour begins with a send-off at the White House. Some of the performers with Bob Hope are Connie Stevens and Neil Armstrong, fresh from his walk on the moon! Experience this great entertainer as thousands of troops did who welcomed Bob Hope every year. The legend of Bob Hope entertaining American GI's started in May of 1941 when the country was at peace. When World War II broke out, he with a band of "Hollywood Gypsies" took off for Europe, North America, and the South Pacific - where ever men and women in uniform were training or fighting. Throughout the war, all of Bob's weekly radio shows were performed before GI audiences. The tradition of spending Christmas with the troops began in 1948 when Bob, with his wife Delores, flew to Europe to entertain Americans involved with the Berlin airlift. Every year from 1948 through Desert Storm in 1990, Bob Hope has played Santa to American servicemen and women around the world. Hailed as the "clown hero in greasepaint", Bob Hope with a bag full of jokes, golf club in hand, and with a "who's who" list of entertainers and pretty girls, earned his service ribbons in Korea, Vietnam, Beirut, the Persian Gulf and Saudi Arabia. One of Bob's favorite Christmas memories is this 1969 Vietnam-European Tour.
