In the 1960s and 1970s, an absolutely gorgeous boy named Mark Lester appeared on the scene and starred in several British productions. This is one of them, a beautifully made film with a great screenplay by Wolf Mankowitz, and stunning direction by James Hill. The people involved recreate the classic novel by Anna Sewell, dealing with the friendship and love between a boy and his beautiful black horse. Think the Black Stallion and yes--this film is just as good as that fine effort. Lester's other wonderful credits include: Run Wild Run Free, and the best version of Oliver.
