He is known as a collector of workers (mining) folklore in Siberia. He worked in three main directions: he studied the folklore of miners first at Demidov, then at the office mines and factories in Altai, the folklore of Yamshchina in Moscow, and finally, the folklore of revolutionary times in 1905, 1917, and the struggle against witchcraft.
