The artist’s eye sees a little more extravagantly than the poet’s, but generally the collaboration is excellent. Mr. Wills’s rhymed pictures of Sydney have been appearing for several years in various newspapers, and anyone who knows the city will appreciate how tellingly true they are. The poet introduces them: These are such songs as one man’s ears. Heard Sydney sing . . . the songs of streets. Of passing crowds and passing years. And all the things a townsman meets. From scarlet stars to secret tears. Nothing so thoroughly original and very little so true has been written in verse with Sydney for topic.
