Between August 1918 and 1923, twenty engines were built at Eastleigh Works by Urie
for passenger workings on the Waterloo to Bournemouth and Salisbury lines. This was
the first of several batches to be constructed in 1918. These Urie engines could always be distinguished from the rest of the class by their high arched South Western cabs.
