"I, Gerge Barnley, of The Villas, Oadby, in the County of Leicester, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows: I, provide for the ready identification of umbrellas, travelling trunks, and similarly portable articles, as well as for other descriptions of property, by attaching to them bands, or plates, of metal, or other suitable material, having first impressed on them, in raised or embossed lettering a name, or name and address, formed of characters large enough to be readily deciphered..."
