"I, Richard Wigan, of 9 Maskell Street, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester, in the County of Lancaster, Bookkeeper, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows: This invention relates to a means for connecting pipes that may be used either for high or low pressure. The object of this invention is to obtain a perfectly watertight or steamtight joint without requiring the employment of a skilled labour to fit said pipes..."
