Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a platform game developed by Aspectand published by Sega for the Master System and Game Gear. Both the Master System and Game Gear versions were released in Europeon October 1992, whilst only the Game Gear version was released in North America and Japan. It followsSonic the Hedgehog, which was also released on both the Master System and Game Gear.

As the game was released before the Sega Genesis version, it represents the debut of character Miles "Tails" Prower, who would became a mainstay in the series. Whilst the Master System version of the game was not initially released outside Europe and Brazil, it later become available worldwide following its release on the Wii's Virtual Console in 2008.
