Salus Librorum, The Deliverer of Books

Good value books, and great service!

Why the odd name? 6 years ago, one of the partners in the business was working as a volunteer in a well known chain of charity book shops, and was appalled to find that not only were perfectly good, donated, books, being dumped in the cardboard skip at the local tip (either because they were duplicates or because they'd not sold in the 10 weeks they were allowed to be on the shelf) but they were paying someone to take it all away. She decided that there must be a better way, and convinced the manager of the shop that we could make them money by selling this stock online, and sharing the proceeds, thus turning a loss into another revenue stream.

Being a bit of a Latin scholar, she suggested the name Salus Librorum, as a play on words in Latin and English, Salus meaning 'deliverer', but in the saving or rescuing sense - and having a double meaning when translated into English - Librorum means 'of books'. Hence the 'deliverer of books' in both senses of the word, since at the beginning all the books being sold were rescued from destruction, and delivered to someone else to read.

The charity did change their procedures in the light of this, and in December 2009, the Saturdays spent in the basement going through the rejects/cull stock ceased, but rather a large backlog had built up, so the vast majority of the Salus Librorum stock is still from the charity, and 40% of the profits will still be going back to them.

All the items in 'TheHazelTree' are personal sales, from a, somewhat unsuccessful so far, campaign to declutter the house.

We want you to be happy with your purchase, and always describe books accurately. The photos used in the listings are always of the item being described, we never use stock photos, so you can be assured that what you are looking at on screen is the item you are bidding on.

Items are normally sent out within 1-2 business days of payment being received, with the target being the following business day if possible.

Returns Policy:

Returns must be within 7 days, and must be the whole consignment in the same condition in which it was sent. Payment will be refunded on receipt (less outward postage if the item is not faulty).

Postage Consolidation:

I am always happy to put multiple purchases into the same package if this will reduce postage costs, after all it isn't me that is making money out of these costs! I will do my best to send multiple items in the most cost effective way possible.

What I sell:

I sell books and some postcards, there will occasionally be cds, dvds, and games.

I do my best to provide excellent customer service, if you have any questions about any items I have for sale, please feel free to contact me at salus_librorum at tesco.net.
