In Xalapa, the mystical oracle reveals the criteria that have to be met for each challenge. Once those criteria been settled, all the players immediately try to find the right spaces on their boards as fast as they can. The quickest player who doesn't fall into disfavor with the oracle can win the game after seven rounds

Xalapa is played over seven rounds. In each round, all players take their turn at the same time and try to fulfill the oracle's requirements.
The game board is in the middle of the table. A new position card and several oracle cards are revealed on this in each game round. These cards specify the conditions according to which the players must place up to eight oracle stones on their own player boards. For each oracle stone used, the player's favor with the oracle decreases by one point. For each task not completed, there are also resentment points. The players should therefore try to fulfill all the tasks while using as few oracle stones as possible.
The player who has aroused the least resentment at the end of the seventh game round wins the game and is therefore the chosen one.

In Xalapa the degree of difficulty can be varied as desired by making small changes in the game structure. Five levels of difficulty are already mentioned in the Xalapa instructions. For example, the position card is printed on both sides and provides either three or four oracle stones. The use of the various oracle cards can also increase the game's demands for advanced players. In addition to the apprentice cards, there are also journeyman and master cards in the game
The journeyman cards are put into play on the right side of the game board as additional requirements. If you would like it even harder, you can use the master cards instead of the journeyman cards. With both card types, not only additional but also new requirements come into play.
In Xalapa as a solo game, all rules apply and all levels of difficulty can be used. In the solo game, the player also tries to collect as few resentment points as possible over seven rounds. The result should then be written down on a piece of paper - this way it can be compared with the results of other solo rounds. Solo play is a great exercise if you were too slow the first time you played in a group and had accumulated too many resentment points.
Xalapa has also a professional variant that is played on the back of the game board. This is intended for the professional version and the game with the number chips. Apart from an additional game phase, the process is identical to the basic version.
