Description

WWI commemorative circular plastic-coated pressed tinplate metal badge with a celluloid face and a pin attachment on the reverse. This is a round metal Official Peace Button badge with a gold outer border and green wreath inner border. In the center is a world globe , with the British Empire marked in red, topped by a hovering Dove of Peace and banner and bow below. There are words, in blue, around the edge of the inside of the wreath , "OFFICIAL PEACE BUTTON  R.S.A. FUNDS SIGNED JUNE 28 1919" , the date appearing in scroll. An example of this badge can be found at the Museum Victoria.

Summary:

Australian Returned Soldiers' Association Funds (  R.S.A. ) fundraising badge issued during the Great War.  Such badges were sold in trams, buses, at railways stations and at rallies to raise money for the stated cause.

The RSA was a predecessor of the Returned & Services League (RSL). The Returned Soldier's Association of South Australia and their associated building appeal raised 36,385 pounds during the war to assist in the housing and care of returned soldiers.

This fundraising badge , alternatively known as a button , was produced for the Returned Soldier's Association to commemorate the signing of the World War Peace Agreement of June 28 1919 in Versailles, France; ratifying and expanding the Armistice of  November 11 1918.
