Interesting early issue with Lincoln (1809-1865) and with signature of engraver in collectible condition struck at San Francisco. Issues from 1944 to 1946 used brass made from spent wartime shell casings which were composed of 70% copper and 30% zinc. As a consequence such issues are made of 95% copper and 5% zinc. In 1944 San Francisco mint due to lack of man, who were mobilized to war all over the country, hired women to serve mint presses and all the circle of penny making. They mostly needed help in moving heavy money bags, all the rest were done independently. For varieties lovers. There were two types of mintmark S in 1944: with straight serifs and with ball serifs. This coin is of straight serifs type, which was in use in 1943 and 1944 only.
