Original 1876 11 3/4 inch x 8 3/4 inch Steel Engraving titled WILLIAM 1ST RECEIVING THE CROWN OF ENGLAND
William the Conqueror offered crown by kneeling youth in presence of 2 bishops.
Engraved by John Rogers (active 1810s - 1830s)
After Benjamin West (1738 - 1820). History painter. Born in Pennsylvania he went to Rome in 1760 and spent three years copying masterpieces by Titian, Raphael and others before arriving in London in 1763, where he remained, becoming President of the Royal Academy.
Beneath the main image is a smaller engraving titled Dooms Day book presented to William 1st
