Original 1866 7 5/8 inch x 9 7/8 inch engraving titled THE WIFE’S PORTRAIT - PEPY’S DIARY
Scene in an artist's studio, with a young painter standing behind an easel, painting the portrait of Samuel Pepys's wife, seated sideways on a chair on a podium in foreground at left; Pepys seated on a stool at right, conversing with a young woman, reading the manuscript of his diary, another woman reading over her shoulder.
Engraving by Samuel S. Smith (1810 - 1879). Engraver.
After Alfred Elmore (1815 - 1881). Born in County Cork Elmore was a history and genre painter.
Lettered below image with title: "From the Collection of John Dillon, Esq. Craven Hill”.
