Pictured is One of two Western Gear speed reducing units in the new ammonia plant of Brea Chemicals, Inc., Brea, California, a subsidiary of the Union Oil Company of California. The units are driven by Elliott Steam Turbines at 3600 RPM input, delivering 1250 HP at 300 RPM output to drive Cooper Bessemer reciprocating hydrogen compressors.
