Seller's Description
Original 1893 4 1/4 inch x 7 inch Engraving titled WEEDING THE PAVEMENT
This picture shows the town of Hoorn on the Zuyder See. The harbour had silted up and so the quay was little used. The harbour master has enlisted some young women to weed the pavement so that it looks tidy.
From the painting by George Henry Boughton (1833 - 1905). An Anglo-American landscape and genre painter, illustrator and writer. Brought up in America, Boughton settled in London in 1861 after studying in Paris. Like many of his contemporaries he found Holland a rich source of subject matter. In 1886 he published 'Rambles in Holland' with illustrations by himself and E A Abbey.
Published in the Art Journal 1893
Page size 12 1/2 inch x 9 1/4 inch
The print is in very good condition. Printed text below the image and on the reverse.
