Seller's Description

nzfile23 Antique circa 110-115 years ago origin postcard of swimmers in the historic "Mermaids Bath" in Wairakei - used and perhaps just slightly aged but outstanding condition - has a short message from sender on front that says "is this not a fairy scene" with message on reverse - the swimmers appear to be freezing - you can see one hugging his body but maybe they are just covering themselves up - I am not a local expert but the message on reverse is about invalids attending the bath - I believe in the era it was possibly believed to hold religious healing properties - Rudyard Kipling wrote all about this famous bath (see Our Lady At Wairekei) - used with pencil messages but outstanding condition (ex minus) and you will see this postcard has such great character
