Seller's Description
Original 1940s 10 inch x 8 inch Portrait of VIRGINIA MAYO.
Born Virginia Jones, on November 30th, 1920, in St. Louis, Missouri. Glamorous blonde beauty of Hollywood films of the 1940s and 1950s, she was once described by the Sultan of Morocco as “tangible proof for the existence of God”. A former show girl, she began her Hollywood career in minor parts, then played leading lady to comedians like Bob Hope and Danny Kaye in Samuel Goldwyn colour extravaganzas of the 1940s. Later she demonstrated some acting ability in straight dramatic parts but continued to be associated by audiences with her voluptuous, slightly cross-eyed presence in Technicolor spectacles. Following the decline of her screen career, she continued performing on stage well into the 1980s. Shed died on January 17th, 2005 at the age of 84.
The portrait is in fine condition. Reverse side blank.
