Welcome to MushkaVintageII: Only Originals, no reproductions or copies Set of 12 Chagall vintage DOUBLE sided art prints 12 Tribes Jerusalem Windows 1st Edition 1960s depicting ink drawing and first color sketch of the stained glass windows. Original vintage print from a disbound volume first edition art book. Original scarce prints 55 years old! We are thrilled to offer these original vintage prints produced in the 60s - depicting the second and third stages of design of each of Marc Chagall's famed Jerusalem Windows, depicting the 12 Tribes of Israel in stained glass. Each of these vintage prints depicts a color sketch and on reverse the preparatory drawing in india ink and wash. The final windows, of which we have listed the complete set in a separate listing, adorn the Abbell Synagogue at the Hadassah University Medical Centre in Jerusalem. The renowned artist completed this stunning project in 1962. SALE IS FOR THE 12 PRINTS IN TOTAL. Measure: 10.5" by 8.5" each. Perfect for a gallery wall or individual frame art. ~ ❤ ~ ❤ About the Jerusalem Windows: ~ ❤ ~ ❤ "Every pane is a microcosm of Chagall's world, real and imaginary; of his love for his people, his deep sense of identification with Jewish history, his early life in the Russian shtetl. "All the time I was working, I felt my mother and father looking over my shoulder; and behind them were Jews, millions of other vanished Jews -- of yesterday and a thousand years ago," Chagall said. The Bible was his primary inspiration, particularly Jacob's blessings on his twelve sons and Moses' blessings on the twelve tribes. Each window is dominated by a specific color and contains a quotation from the individual blessings. The synagogue was dedicated in the presence of the artist on February 6, 1962 as part of Hadassah's Golden Anniversary Celebration. Please see pics, ask questions before purchase.
