Vintage Charles Horner 925 Sterling Silver Large St Christopher Pendant Necklace

This wonderful vintage 1970s solid Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace by Charles Horner features a large St Christopher Pendant suspended from a chunky Silver Cable Chain with a Spring Ring Clasp.

Charles Horner passed away before the turn of the century, his company (the Charles Horner Company) continued to flourish with the help of his sons, it survived both world wars, and continued producing jewellery untill the 1980s.

The Necklace comes complete with its box which I believe to be original to the Necklace as it features the same shape as the Pendant.

Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travellers, including motorists, who sometimes hang a small image of him in their vehicle for luck.

According to legend, he was crossing a river when a child asked to be carried across. He lifted the child on to his back and crossed the river although the child was extremely heavy. Unknown to Saint Christopher the child was really Christ carrying the weight of the whole world.

The Chain measures 21" in length and has a Spring Ring Clasp.

The Pendant measures 3.7cm x 2.5cm (including the Bail).

The Necklace weighs 15.2g.

The Pendant is fully Hallmarked for Birmingham 1972 and has the Makers Mark 'CH' (Charles Horner). The Chain is stamped 'STERLING' - Both also test as Fine Silver.
