The Ralph Vaughan Williams portion conducted by Adrian Boult and Neville Marriner, with Andre Previn weighing in when it comes to the symphonies. This disc, though out of print, is a wonderful option, however, as it contains a marvelous performance of the composer's Oboe Concerto. Soloist Maurice Bourgue is excellent and the English String Orchestra under William Boughton sounds gorgeous, at least to my untrained ear. Two other lesser played pieces by Vaughan Williams, his Concerto Grosso and Five Variants and Dives and Lazarus, are also on this disc, played to perfection as well. Rounding out the program are the more familiar Tallis and Greensleeves Fantasias. Though Boult and Marriner can get you through the bulk of RVW's well-known works, a cozy addition, especially for the oboe concerto and concerto grosso.
