Seller's Description
U.S. Military token – Vietnam era - Saigon HACOM Open Mess. Ref# VN2190C
Military Tokens of the United States overseas. The tokens, called slugs by the servicemen and used at many of the 800 or so service clubs, were of the size of U.S. 5, 10, and 25 cent coins. During the rapid buildup in Vietnam in 1965-66 no quarters were available for personnel. Many units had villas near military installations and gave unique names to the bars and clubs associated with them.
Reference numbers (similar to Krause KM numbers for coins) are taken from the Book: Military Tokens of the United States – Volume 2 Overseas Issues” by Paul A Cunningham.
