Seller's Description

Original 4 1/4 inch x 7 3/4 inch 1879 Etching titled TOMBEAU DE RAOUL DE LANNOY A FOLLEVILLE.

Raoul de Lannoy, born in the middle of the 15th century and died on April 4, 1513, from a noble family originally from Flanders, one branch of which settled in Picardy in the 13th century. He was a Picard war captain at the end of the Middle Ages and of the early Renaissance in the service of the King of France. He successively served three kings of France: Louis XI from 1477 to August 30, 1483, Charles VIII from August 30, 1483 to April 7, 1498, and Louis XII from April 7, 1498 to April 15, 1513.
The tomb is of pure north Italian design, and is signed by Antonio della Porta and is in the church of Folleville, a commune in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France in northern France.

Drawing and etching attributed to Jean Eugène Sadoux (1841 - 1906). Sadoux studied engraving, lithography and drawing in Paris and drew for the magazines “Le Magasin Pittoresque”, “Le Monde illustré" and "l'Illustration". He was also a painter in watercolours, in particular, in 1871 he painted the Templar frescoes of the Commandery of Cressac-Saint-Genis.

Engraving from a disbound copy of ‘La Renaissance en France’ by Leon Palustre. Published by A Quantin, Imprimeur-Editeur, 7, Rue Saint-Benoit, Paris, 1879.

Page size 17 3/8 inch x 12 1/2 inch
