Collection of Three Antique Victorian Black Faceted French Jet Beaded Long Muff / Guard Chains
Three antique Victorian Black french Jet Beaded long Muff/ Guard Chains with Dog Clips.
These beautiful antique chains were once an essential part of a Victorian lady's apparel. Antique guard chains were long chains sculpted from Gold, Silver, Base Metal, Beads, Jet or French Jet and designed to have multiple uses from holding a pocket watch or longer strands to hold a ladies Muff and were even substantial enough to be worn as a necklace wrapped a number of times around the neck.
French Jet is black glass, originally meant to simulate black ignite (fossilized coal), often called real jet. French jet refers to a type of black glass jewelry popularized during the Victorian Era.
The second Guard Chain has a length of 66". The beads are individually chained and it is in very good antique condition as shown.
The third Guard Chain has a length of 53". The beads are individually knotted on original cord but it has been broken and re-tied and is missing some beads (as shown in the last photo) and is included in the collection for spares or repair only.
