  • Comments: The Planetary Report is a glossy journal produced by the Planetary Society, founded in 1980 by amongst others, Carl Sagan. It is a non-governmental organisation that promotes planetary and space research and has 60 thousand plus members. It currently funds small scale scientific works such as light sail satellite missions and SETI projects. In this issue there is an article on Project BETA a radio telescope Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence. Another article reviews the European Space Agency’s plans for planetary exploration in that era. The third paper deals with a geological field trip to a former flood scab/land environment as an analogue to the then upcoming Mars Pathfinder landing site. Then there is something about Radar imaging/3D modelling of Near-Earth asteroids. The remainder of the magazine deals with routine Planetary Society news and activities. Despite being from 1996 it should make a fascinating read.
