Description: In August 1983, 700 workers at EZ industries' Roseberry Mine, on Tasmania's West Coast, went on strike in protest at the sacking of three workmates. But the employers were seeking far more than the ability to victimise selected unionists. They hoped to bulldoze away a long series of established work practices, some of which had applied to Rosebery for a generation. The aim was to help the company restructure its operations and slash its workforce.
