Both of these Gold Key Silver Age Comics is in VG to VG/FN condition...each has the usual slight cover wear with all pages complete! Fun Facts: This is the very 1st AMERICAN Comic Book that was titled "The Phantom" and the 1st 17 Issues of this initial Phantom run all had Painted Covers!
The PHANTOM # 1 - Nov. 1962
This First Issue from the Charlton Comics 1969 Series kicks off with an Incredible Painted Cover by George Wilson featuring "The Ghost who walks" with his favorite companions, a Wolf named Devil and his White Stallion named Hero!!
"The Legacy" has a Script by Bill Harris, with Pencils and Inks by Bill Lignante and Letters by Ben Oda opens with this opening Line..."400 years ago, the sole survivor of a pirate raid..." and tells the brutal story of the sole survivor of a Pirate raid swears vengeance on all murderous Pirates, founding a line of Phantoms that has continued for 16 generations! "The Game", by the same creative team, shows Prince Ragon enticing men into a deadly game by offering great rewards. When the Phantom interferes, Ragon has Diana kidnapped to force the Phantom to play...but The Phantom fights his way through to Diana and captures Ragon to boot!! "The Ring" by the same explains how the Phantom's Ring is special and how all the evil doers of the world knows the sign of the skull, the mark of the Phantom! Plus there's a pin-up! GREAT First Issue!!
THE PHANTOM # 5 - Nov. 1963 - George Wilson Painted Cover!
"The Swamp Rats" is by Bill Harris, Bill Lignante and Ben Oda as a viscous Murderer named Otter leads his "swamp rats" on raids against nearby villages and caravans, always escaping by means of secret trails through the Great Swamp! When they capture two Jungle Patrol men as hostages, the Phantom infiltrates their camp, frees the patrolmen, and with their help captures the bandits! "Rogue Elephant" features Jungle Denizens King, Queen and Jack, as the three friends narrowly escape death bringing down a rogue elephant in a bamboo stand! They discover that the animal had a bullet lodged in the nerve center of one tusk, causing it years of constant agony! "The Phantom's Boyhood" by the same creative team, shows The twentieth Phantom teaches his son Kit in the skills and the lore of his future career as the Phantom! Eventually the boy is sent to his mother's family for schooling in America, with Guran as companion. The two friends don't know what to make of the industrialized world. Kit shocks his aunt and uncle by arriving in a loincloth, having swapped clothes with Guran, who's been feeling self-conscious! This was a unique look at the Phantom's childhood!
