The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group is a left-field pop entry from Minneapolis. Led by the band's namesake, the band debuted in 1995 with the full-length Oh Brother Where Art Thou? on the Minty Fresh Records label. It took three years for a follow-up, Sniff, which also turned out to be the band's final recorded output. Several of their songs have appeared on soundtracks and compilations, and Ruiz still plays in Minneapolis and beyond. Ruiz claims a wide range of musical influences, from The Jazz Butcher and Max Eider to Françoise Hardy, soul and bossa nova to lounge and pop. Other obvious influences are Edwyn Collins and Orange Juice, early Aztec Camera and other Scottish pop bands from the 1980s. Drawing on a vast tapestry of influences spanning from pop to soul to new wave to bossa nova, the Legendary Jim Ruiz Group was led by the self-same singer/guitarist Ruiz in tandem with his wife Stephanie. Debuting in 1995 with Oh, Brother Where Art Thou?, they returned in 1998 with Sniff.
