THE JOHN F. KENNEDYS A FAMILY ALBUM Hardback book with Dust Jacket by Mark Shaw Copyright © 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964 by Mark Shaw " Early in November, 1963, the publisher signed a contract with Mark Shaw, the distinguished photographer, for a book containing his intimate photographs of President Kennedy, his wife and their children. " " Mr. Shaw started taking photographs of the family in 1959, when he traveled with them for several months on and between campaign trips. The pictures were taken in Georgetown, Washington, Hyannis Port and elsewhere, over a period of four years. " " Mr. Shaw's relationship, rather than that of an "official" photographer of the Kennedys, was more that of a friend of the family who is also an expert photographer. Because of this close association, these photographs show the Kennedys at their ease and reflect their affection for one another, their high spirits, their warmth and dignity, their energy and style. " " Because the pictures speak for themselves they do not have captions, but at the end of the book Mr. Shaw has added a few brief notes describing the circumstances under which certain pictures or series of pictures were taken. The John F. Kennedys is a family album and a historical document. " The left picture above shows the front dust jacket of the book. The right picture above shows the nice front cover of the book beneath the dust jacket with the SEAL OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. This book is in pretty good condition, but the cover has some faded discolored spots along the edges and the dust jacket has several tears and some worn edges. No torn or ripped pages. The inside covers have a stamp of the previous owners' name and address. The first blank page has some yellowing which looks like an imprint from possibly a newspaper article left in the book. |
