VideoDisc ABC Video presents... The Big Fights Volume 2 " Heavyweight Champions' Greatest Fights " RCA VIDEODISC CED :: Capacitance Electronic Disc System Running Time: Approx. 1 hour 29 minutes Black & White / Color © 1981 The Big Fights Inc. Manufactured & Distributed © 1981 RCA Corporation Featuring: Joe Louis Jack Dempsey Rocky Marciano Muhammed Ali "The Heavyweight Division has always been the crown jewel of boxing's firmament. Its members are usually the fight game's most magnetic characters. On this disc are the most significant rounds of seven decades of heavyweight title and non-title fights, with all the elements that make the drama and energy of boxing unique: history-making fights, hard-fought contests between evenly matched opponents, heroism, the rapture of victory and the disbelief and devastation of defeat. The Divison's great eras and champions are represented here: Rocky Maraciano, who spoke brutally but eloquently with his fists; Joe Louis 'The Brown Bomber,' who earned more money than any fighter before him and defended his title twenty-five times, always waiting patiently for the one opening he needed for the knockout to win the title. There's also plenty of controversy, such as that resulting from Dempesy's biggest scare as a champion, when Lius Firpo knocked him through the ropes. Sportswriters at ringside helped Dempesy to his feet and Dempesy knocked out Firpo out in the second round, but his victory was hotly debated by the press. Here are the wide-open fights (such as Ezzard Charles' blazing victory over Pat Valentino) and displays of heroism (like Don Cockell, who stood up to a barrage of blows in losing to Marciano). The Division's modern era is represented by Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, George Foreman, and Muhammad Ali. When the flesh became weaker than the will to fight, some of them moved on to other enterprises - Foreman became an evangelist, Frazier a nightclub singer; but Ali, who was one of the world's most visible personalities, announced a ring comeback almost every year. The limelight is very hard to resist, but the heavyweight limelight is the headiest in sports." -Rich Friedman Used videodisc.
