Seller's Description
Original 1885 8 3/8 inch x 7 1/4 inch etching titled STUDY OF A HEAD.
A young woman reading newspaper, sitting at table, seen from behind, two cats sitting on a rattan chair to the left.
Chalk drawing by Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769 - 1830). Lawrence was the leading British portrait painter of the early 19th century, portraying most of the important personalities of the day in his polished and flattering style. He was a child prodigy and largely self-taught; at the age of 10 he was making accomplished portraits in crayon. He was influenced by Sir Joshua Reynolds during his youth; his style developed very little throughout his life.
Print size 8 3/4 inch x 12 inch
From ‘The Magazine of Art’ Vol. VIII. 1885. Published by Cassell & Company Ltd. - London, Paris, New York & Melbourne.
The etching is in very good condition. Reverse side blank.
