*************
The Trapp Family Lodge is a 2,800-acre (11 km2), three-and-a-half-star resort located in Stowe, Vermont.[1] The lodge is managed by Sam von Trapp and his father Johannes von Trapp.[2]
The von Trapp family, memorialized in The Sound of Music and The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp, fled from the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany and ended up in Vermont in 1942.[3] In 1950, a 27-room ski lodge was opened. The lodge was destroyed by a fire, on December 20, 1980, that forced 45 people, including Baroness Maria Von Trapp, to flee in their nightclothes. The body of Ronald Becker, 30 years old, of Salem, Illinois, a guest, was found later in the rubble.[4] In 1983 a new, Austrian-style lodge with 93 rooms was opened.[1]
By the time Maria von Trapp died in 1987, 32 family members owned stock in the lodge. Johannes von Trapp bought their shares in 1994 and resolved all family lawsuits in 1999.[2]
The Trapp Family Lodge added 23 rooms and 100 guesthouses.
Stowe is a town in Lamoille County, Vermont, United States, and is a major four-season destination resort. The population was 4,339 at the 2000 census.

Stowe's economy is almost entirely tourism based. Numerous lodges, shops and restaurants serve the many visitors to this area. The Trapp Family Lodge, in particular, is a major draw, and serves as one of the principal concert sites for the Vermont Mozart Festival. In the winter, Stowe Mountain Resort ski area is the community's largest employer. Although most famous for its skiing, Stowe's summer and fall seasons are also popular with visitors. Historically there has been some manufacturing in Stowe, such as the Tubbs Snowshoe factory, but they recently closed up shop and moved their manufacturing overseas to China.
