Stone Canyon Agate Cabochon: Beautiful Brecciated Pattern In Golden & Blue-White

This gem comes from central California, and is famous for its brecciated (broken) patterns, which are unusual in agates. The brecciation is caused by the deposit's location in earthquake country. Once the original agate was shattered, additional deposits of chalcedony and agate healed the stones back together in wonderful combinations. This cabochon displays widely spaced patches in various shades of gold, held together by translucent white agate. It almost has a tribal feel about it, and for some reason it reminds me of a giraffe.
