Seller's Description
12inch x 18inch Poster In 1804 Colonel John Stevens build a vessel propelled by twin screws, which navigated the Hudson river, and attained a speed of nine miles per hour, but for many years the idea of screw propulsion was abandoned by engineers in favor of the paddle wheel. The first large sea going screw steamer was the Archimedes - 232 tons registered. She was built in 1838 and proved to be a complete success. - There is a border around the image. Image size is correct.
